Hi Shaun, give my regards to David Blackman, my good mate from the 'Dale. Great to see Desperado (v.xx?) doing well.

Indeed David attributes the suggestion of valuing pieces as 1,4,4,6,12 (instead of 1,3,3,5,9) to you. One of my computer programs (Fencer) uses it, without any noticible problems, and it appears Hydra has also headed in that direction, valuing minor pieces closer to 4 pawns than 3. |

Probably, my first reaction was I suggested that minor pieces should be evaluated much higher, and much more skilfully, in terms of against a pawn, than the 3/1 assessment of the beginners' books of the time. But the initiative means everything, so now I'm not sure. Last edited by Shirty : 17-07-2005 at 09:53 PM. |
