Melbourne Chess Club: A New Era!

The dawn of a new era is already obvious in the faces of the President Grant Szuveges, his Committee, the members (old and new) of the Club as well as the Club itself.
I know there are other related threads about the Club and its activities. However, this thread symbolises the beginning of Melbourne Chess Club's new direction, based upon new ideas and new practices.
I want to make it very clear that, as I have been appointed and isntructed by Mr Grant Szuveges, here I will be posting MCC's announcements, statements, circulars etc STRICTLY as they are authorised by the President and his Committee.
That doesn't mean that the thread does not encourage active discussion and participation on behalf of the Forum's members. On the contrary, every opinion, is welcomed and will be taken under serious consideration by the MCC Committee. After all the President himself, pointed out to me that listening to members of the Club and the chess community is one of his priorities.

MELBOURNE CHESS CLUB BUILDING FUND

The Melbourne Chess Club needs to raise money for its building fund in order to renovate the toilets, install air conditioning, renovate the kitchen, lay new carpet etc...

All donations to the building fund are valuable and will go towards the improvement of our Club's facilities.

Anyone who donates $50 or more the building fund, will have their name engraved on a vacant square on our chessboard displayed in the clubrooms at 66 Leicester St. Fitzroy. The board currently has 23 vacant squares waiting to have your name on them! The h7 square is still available for any Bishop sacrificers!!! By donating $50 or more, you will be remembered as an important part of our club's history and future generations will see your name engraved on one of the squares on our board.

Donations, no matter how big or small are much appreciated. For more information, please call 0401-925-075 and I will speak with you personally.

MCC President and FIDE Master,
Grant Szuveges

more about the fund

MELBOURNE CHESS CLUB BUILDING FUND

RAFFLE!

In order to raise money for our building fund, the Melbourne Chess Club has organised a raffle with a very, very, very nice first prize.

TEN or Melbourne's best coaches have each donated one hour of their time so that the winner of the raffle will win 10 hours of coaching! The winner will receive one (1) hour of coaching from each of the coaches listed below:

GM Darryl Johansen
IM Guy West
IM Leonid Sandler
IM Robert Jamieson
IM Nick Speck
FM Michael Baron
FM Bill Jordan
FM Grant Szuveges
Malcolm Pyke
Carl Gorka

BUT WAIT! This is only the list so far! More coaches may also donate their time so the winner may receive more than the 10 hours currently advertised. Each coaching hour will be arranged by the Melbourne Chess Club at a time convenient to the winner and the coach.

Raffle tickets cost only $2.00 per ticket, so please support this raffle and give yourself the chance to win 10 hours of coaching, from some great coaches.

For mor information, or to purchase tickets, please call Grant Szuveges (MCC President) on 0401-925-075. The raffle will be drawn prior to the final round of the MCC Championship on April 6th at 7pm at the

MCC (66 Leicester St. Fitzroy).

Great initiative from the club and the coaches ... congratulations to all involved.

Can I ask a question? What format does the coaching take? Face-to-face? Is there capability to offer this to interstate or overseas participants? If so, a great deal more money might be raised by broadening the target audience. If not possible, no harm done!

Not sure about other coaches, but i will be happy to deliver mine via the Internet if necessary. I am already doing a lot of online coaching so it will not be a problem.

keep it up!!!

Thanks for the responses so far, keep on coming with questions, suggestions!
The Club, will gladly answer all questions and will announce new initiatives! Carl Gorka received an enthusiastic applause tonight at the Box Hill Chess Club when he announced the RAFFLE thing... Trevor Stanning who presented Carl, described this move by the MCC as a unique opportunity for the lucky winner and encouraged all to buy tickets!!!
