2007 Doeberl Cup (6 to 9 April)

The brochure for the Doeberl Cup is now on-line.

This is a scanned copy and will be replaced by a better version when I get hold of the original electronic file, but for anyone who wants it now it should do.

Does anyone know if any of the SIO international visitors have entered or expressed the intention to enter the Doeberl Cup? I assume they know about it, as I'm sure Brian has leveraged the Doeberl to give players incentive to make the trip.

Yes, a number of the SIO international visitors will play the Doeberl Cup.

I will release the names when exact travel plans are known.

The 2007 Doeberl Cup brochure lists the 2005 winner as I.Rogers.

The Doeberl Cup in 2005 was jointly won and the permanent trophy engraved with the two winners, I. Rogers and A. Wohl.

A further bit of information which has come to my attention that is not included in the draft brochure referred to above is that the Major, as well as the Premier, will be FIDE-rated.

That's a welcome change.

I remember the uproar last year when many players (juniors namely) who may have been better placed to play in the Majors decided to play up in the Premier. Now that the Major event is FIDE rated too, these strong juniors can take their chance in earning FIDE rating blocks or increasing their FIDE rating in a field that is still comparatively strong (Major).

Good luck to all playing ..
